Assembly line, look-alike résumés do NOT provide job seekers with a competitive advantage. Boring, old-fashion résumés do NOT boost job seekers’ confidence in marketing themselves in a highly competitive job market. And antiquated and outdated résumés will NOT help job seekers land jobs as the recession continues to deepen and the unemployment rate soars to double digits. On the other hand, well thought-out, strategic and value-based résumés give job seekers that competitive advantage they need to land the job they want at the pay they deserve. This is one of Jay Block’s “Signature” programs and plays a central role in positively influencing customers to be proud of the product they are selling – themselves !

“Jay Block is an innovator, visionary and master facilitator. His ability to identify “outside the box” solutions and strategies to the job search never ceases to amaze me. Jay presents his ideas with clarity and real life examples enabling me to instantly apply what I’ve learned. To his credit, Jay is equally enthusiastic about training career entrepreneurs and people like myself who work for a government or non-profit agency. Through his webinars, Jay has enabled me to help hundreds of clients and despite the highest jobless rate in 20 years, I still find that his methods and strategies empower job seekers in all professions.”

Every business leader says it. All successful people preach it. But unfortunately, most job trainers and job seekers totally neglect it. “If you fail to have a written plan, than you better plan to fail.” The best résumé in the world is next to useless without a well thought-out plan. Give a guy a Ferrari and, if he’s driving east to catch a sunset, he’ll never catch it. Use the wrong strategy in landing a job, and you’ll never land it. There are only 10 ways to land a job and the challenge is that most job seekers are using methods that produce the worst results; or nothing at all. In the midst of a recession or a highly competitive job market, strategy is everything. What job seekers do and accomplish in the course of day determines what they will accomplish at the end of the week. But without specific written goals and measurement mechanisms in place to determine job seekers’ progress, little progress will be made. On the other hand, with a powerful and results-oriented written plan, miracles can happen no matter how competitive the job market is.
Learning Objectives
- How to empower clients to take personal responsibility
- How to optimize industry-specific time management techniques
- The 10 ways to get hired; and which ones work best in a recession
- How to leverage resources (time, energy and money) to land a job quicker
- How to set daily schedules and stick to them
- How to overcome procrastination
- How to set the bar high when setting weekly goals
- Why rejection is a friend and nothing to fear
- The best investment one can make in a job campaign
- The art of “bridging”
- How to create a MAP (Massive Action Plan)
- How to manage and modify the MAP
- Learn precise measurement techniques

Making the job transition campaign enjoyable and exciting is the MISSING link to the entire process. In 1938, the first job search book ever published was a booked called, Pick Your Job and Land It, by Sidney and Mary Edlund (Prentice Hall). On page 2 they say what we have been missing for more than 70 years ! “When you come right down to it these (job campaign) techniques work only when harnessed to hard thought and hard effort. Still, the sky’s the limit when it comes to finding the job you want. And actually – as thousands of men and women have found through experience – you can have a wonderful time at it too; for it’s fun !” Study successful sales professionals who are “motivated” by the likes of Anthony Robbins and Zig Ziglar. Study world class athletes who are “motivated” by their coaches and sports psychologists. Then study the dismal, fear-based and painstakingly depressing way job search is taught and you’ll immediately realize that the missing link to higher placements and a more proactive, responsible customer is that of customer motivation. This program teaches trainers and customers what world class athletes and business / political leaders know – motivational techniques to attract mega success… quickly and enjoyably.

Look for a job; land a job; and then get fired. Look for a job; land a job; and then get downsized. Look for a job; land a job; and then get the boss from Hell. Look for a job; land a job; and then the business goes out of business.
When America transformed from the Agrarian Age to the Industrial Age, there was enough room for everyone. As America progressed from the Industrial Age and is now struggling its way through the Technology Age, there is hardly enough room / quality jobs for everyone. Jobs are being lost at rates not seen since the Great Depression. Nationally, unemployment is approaching 10%. Approximately 4.4 million jobs have been lost in the past 15 months alone – and almost every day, more companies are announcing new layoffs. This is NOT negative… this is reality!
Until an emerging industry or a number of industries large enough to accommodate the millions of unemployed and underemployed works emerges, entrepreneurialism may be the only viable alternative for ensuring job and financial security. In other words, self security (profits) may be the only security for the foreseeable future. Outsourcing will not stop. Approximately 1.8 billion people who lived under communist rule are now seeking to enjoy “the good life” in a global, capitalistic free enterprise. America produces very little in terms of manufacturing production. Few top economists are able to even guess how this will affect the future – as technology replaces human labor.
The Entrepreneurial Edge is a program that begins the difficult process of transforming an entire culture that has, over the past 100 years or so, come to depend on the corporation to make a living and provide a comfortable lifestyle. The future seems to point to self preservation and self security through the re-emergence of the entrepreneurial spirit. There is no question that the Workforce System and Workforce professionals MUST embrace and offer entrepreneurialism as a training component to their job transition menu of services; either internally or in partnership with other institutions and organizations. This is the “starting point” for addressing the inevitable.

“Jay’s interview certification was a life-changing experience. His presentation style is outstanding and the Organizational Message Chart is pure genius.”

This exciting and provocative program teaches interviewing strategies and techniques from the “employers” and the “hiring manager’s” perspective. If your customers know what interviewers want and are looking for, they can deliver it on a silver platter ! James G. Goodale, PhD and author of the book, The Fine Art of Interviewing, says that interviews have always included an element of game playing in which each party tries to outfox the other. It is evident that such gamesmanship is far more common today than it was 10 or 15 years ago. A major reason for this is that interviewing is growing more skillful – from both the interviewee’s and interviewer’s perspective. There is no doubt that if a job candidate conducts a flawless job campaign but is not able to ‘seal the deal’ in the interviewing process, the flawless campaign will ultimately end in failure. Today, with millions of people competing for jobs; many of which they’re not even qualified for, those who get in the door, impress the interviewer and sell themselves best will have the upper hand and will win the job. Indeed, we have definitely entered the age of the professional interviewee. Workforce trainers must be armed with state-of-the-art strategies and communication tools to prepare their customers to become professional interviewees.

“I have hired many trainers over the years for professional development; only a few more than once. In Jay Block I found the missing piece… Transformation. His style and material causes people to look inward first, and then apply what they have learned to the customer. The impact has been felt, practiced, and reproduced. He energizes everyone and the impact has eased the burden on the customer and the staff; we now help people make life-changing decisions based on THEIR values. Their success is our success.”
SEMCA, Taylor, Michigan
Self-actualization is a term originally introduced by Kurt Goldstein in describing the idea of realizing ALL of one’s potentialities. However, Abraham Maslow later brought the concept to prominence in a way most job trainers and career strategists can closely relate to. Simply stated, Maslow claimed that if one is not doing or engaged in something that one is “naturally fitted to do” happiness is not possible. In other words, if a Workforce professional’s customers are pursuing job that DON’T turn them on, they won’t work hard at getting it.
Career Rejuvenation is Jay Block’s SIGNATURE CAREER COACHING program and is unlike anything you’ll ever experience. Workforce manager’s who have seen Jay present this program claim it’s actually life-changing for both Workforce professionals and Workforce customers. A meaningful career should serve only one purpose – to give customers the kind of life they want and deserve. This intense program inspires both trainers and Workforce customers to delve deep inside and identify signature career values that are aligned with their life values. Customers will work hard and proactively if they see that by pursuing their job goals it will inspire happiness and fulfillment in life. This program has been internationally acclaimed as the most effective career management system for helping people to identify, pursue, and achieve career goals – congruent with life’s aspirations. Most people live to work; this program teaches customers how to work in order to live a rewarding life.
